When was the last time you looked at your business card? Most small office, home office and small to mid-size business owners and their employees don’t give their business card a second thought until it’s time to reorder or update info (phone, email, address, etc…). For some, your business card may feel as if it is going the way of the phone book. A couple months back we were getting low on our business cards and needed to reorder but instead of business as usual we took this opportunity to rethink our business card strategy.

Thought Leaders and Your Business Card

Our friends at Entrepreneur Magazine published a Business Card Do’s and Don’ts blog that we found helpful. Forbes magazine published a creative, thought provoking, outside the box blog that really got us thinking about other ideas and strategies for business and info cards.

If you’ve ever attended any of our workshops, you know we stress the importance of testing whatever it is that your doing to see if it is working or what is working better. Therefore, we’re going to do a little test on business cards later this year. This won’t be a make or break campaign or strategy but we’re going to have fun with it.

Don’t Be Judged By Your Business Card

While writing this blog we revisited the importance of Your Business Card. It’s crazy to think that we can be judged by others on our business card appearance. Think about it, what goes through your head when you’re handed a thin and flimsy business card or a business card with the name of the company that provided it for free?

A Few Suggestions for Your Business Card

We’re no longer restricted to “old school” business layouts. Think out the box! Your Business Card has more importance than we give it. Remember, it may be the first experience someone has with you and you want it to represent you well. You want your business card to be interesting and inviting. Don’t skimp but don’t break the bank either.

  • Think outside the box. Provide value beyond name, email, phone, etc…
  • Get high-quality, thick card stock that feels nice to the touch.
  • Order enough but too many
  • Consider how your business card works as part of your campaign or funnel
  • Hire a graphic artist! This is a smart investment and you can find great talent on sites like Elance or Fiverr
